“I shall pass through this world (life) but once! Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now, in his name, and for his sake! Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again” – Stephen Grellet.
The last few days for me had been on a “low key” as I had to battle with a stress-related illness coupled with the disheartening news of the demise of a loved one. All these almost painted my entire days dreary, weary and black. Then I understood the fact that life, though brief was best lived to its fullest in a happy manner.
I ain’t writing to deliver a lecture or preach a sermon, what I intend to achieve is raising our moral consciousness towards making our stay here blissful. While I am not disputing the fact that life isn’t a bed of roses, however, we can blossom and flourish if we cultivate some little habits.
Now to live one’s life to the fullest doesn’t have to do with spending days and nights at the bar or club and drinking the ” drinkables ” to stupor, neither does it have to do with going for parties or buying purchasing exotic cars and mansions in the name of flaunting wealth. It has to do with putting into practice little and minute things we despise are necessary so as to make our journey and sojourn here inspiring and worthwhile.
So what are these infinitesimal things we often despise but which can make us live our life to the fullest:
So you want to tell me that there is nothing to be thankful for right? Absolutely not. Look around, check the sky, view the lilies blossoming around. How about showing thankfulness to that little friend of yours who keep beeping your lines with messages and calls to ask about your life. All these and more are worth gratitude.
2. Letting Go
I think many of us find it difficult to let. Why trying to wake a dead horse? Sounds ridiculous right? But that’s what many do. Why don’t you spare a minute to let go of grudges? What allows another live rent-free on your head? C’mon life is too short to bottle up emotions and grudges. Fling them into the thin air.
3. Lend a helping hand
Too often we are caught in the web of thinking for our own selves forgetting there are others who need help. Extend that hand of love. You might be probably be saving someone from suicide.
4. Celebrate your little wins
Though I ain’t telling you to do this while remaining in your comfort zone. Nonetheless, take out time to reflect and celebrate yourself. Why wait for others to celebrate you at a rather unreasonable hour. So you gotta celebrate yourself. Remember, no one does this better than you do.
5. Be at peace with all
Yeah, we gotta fight most times. However, be quick to mend the broken lines. Life is a brief race. Be an advocate of peace and tranquillity.
So let me conclude this piece with a short and witty statement I saw on a friend’s WhatsApp status:
“Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get the chance take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it will be worth it”.
In other words:
Love all, trust a few and hate no one. Ultimately, while living your life today as if it were to be the last, don’t forget to live it to the fullest.
