A few days back, I was struggling with this habit of procrastination. Virtually everything that was to contribute positively to my life was being pushed forward. I kept postponing and postponing until I was caught up with urgencies around me. Like I once read in a book, I’m paraphrasing- neglect of things you’re supposed to do causes urgencies no matter how little. That was the condition I found myself and I made up my mind to start doing things as they come. Living a day at a time and doing what’s meant for today, today. And by so doing I was able to conquer procrastination.
Just as our life is made up of years, months, weeks and days so also our pattern of living is made up of daily habits which have formed basic principles or guiding rule. If we have a healthy or a good lifestyle it’s because we have been able to build good habits over the years. But there are times in life whereby situations or circumstances or people around us has shaped us into having bad attitudes which contribute negatively to our general well being, what do we do then? That’s where the conquering begins.
You would need to break those habits if you would want a healthy life. And believe me, it’s not easy but consistency is the key. Attitudes like: procrastination, lateness, ungrateful and nonchalant attitude, laziness and suchlike, if not dealt with can impede the extent to which a person can achieve much in life.
A little tip on defeating these habits:
1. Recognize the fact that there are attitudes that won’t allow you to achieve the things you desire.
2. Consciously strive to desist from doing them. And here’s the hardest part of it. It’s not easy to stop the habits you’ve gotten used to and start up the new one most especially if it’s been years before you realized it. But consistency is the key.
3. Have a partner that constantly brings you to order once it seems like you are falling back to those old habits. Be accountable to someone, probably a friend.
4. Remember, a healthy lifestyle results from good daily habits.
You conquer your attitude, you conquer life.
