I guess you’re about asking me, “why on Earth would you want me to be a Jack?”. Well, success in life is for the Jacks. Those who find Jack’s life too hard or unreasonable to imitate often find themselves mingling with mere men.
Growing up, we (you and I) were made to believe that a Jack of all trades is the master of none. That might be true to an extent. But we’re not talking about that. There’s a Jack that has made it in life and it is he who is worth emulating. The saying of this Jack is, ” Jack of all trades, master of one”.
I bet the sound of that makes you smile. How will you feel knowing little about almost everything and being a “professional” in one? I tell you, that kind of life doesn’t only add figures to your account balance, but it also makes you relevant. It is an awesome feeling to be confident, fulfilling and independent to a reasonable extent.
People often get disappointed when others do not show up to help them. The root of this might be that the only thing you can do can be done by another maybe even better. I am marvelled at the way people often resolve to depression. This made me discover that many depressed people are valueless people. It’s nearly impossible for a useful person to be depressed up to the point of suicide.
Life isn’t a bed of roses. At some points in our lives, we may feel down. We may feel we’re not measuring up. The heat of the competition might be bad for us. But hey! Every down time is a call to add value. If one isn’t yielding result at the moment, you can find smile in another. But when what makes you valuable and brings you smile is one, a disaster from that “one” can change your life forever. So, keep jacking all but be sure you’re a master of one.
There is a “Jack” in every successful person you admire today. The many trades may not be a hard labour vocational but more of intellectual. A potential successful medical practitioner must learn to utilize his cash flows well. And for a businessman, that really want to make it big in life. He must be a master in business but still knowledgeable in health, politics and so on. That’s the way to go in this era. One field knowledge isn’t enough. There is a need for versatility.
Being valuable puts you in a position to be offered value. Wale Adenuga is one of the richest men in Nigeria. He has an investment in the Glo network, alongside the ownership of the popularly watched WAP TV. Do you think an average person can refuse him a favour? No right? It’s not only because of his wealth, but it also has to do with the personality he has built over time. Which is a personality of value giving?
A Jack of all trade is an influencer, he knows what to give out to get what. He knows when to use what. He knows time and chance happens to all things. So he positions himself to be productive in every season he finds himself.
Today, be encouraged to be a Jack. Dare to know little about as many things as possible but gain mastery in one. If this has blessed you, do well to recommend.
