Human beings are designed to live in two worlds, the outer world and the inner world. The outer world can be likened to our daily activities and physical appearance while the inner world is situated inside of us, our mind. This inner world controls everything that happens on the outside and as a matter of fact, everything that happens in the outer world is an expression of those things going on in the inner world. This explains why most times when you are frustrated, unhappy on the inside, you will have no other choice than to look confused on the outside. When you see a man with a smile on his face all the time, he looks younger than the man frowning all around. The Man that has a frown on his face has a lot of things running through his mind; worries, depression, anxiety and the rest and these will directly or indirectly affect his facial expression. The problem is not the facial appearance but the state of mind as at that time. The inner controls the outer!
Some people have failed to realize the power of thoughts. But truth be told, where you are today or what you are today is the outcome of your predominant thought. Even the scripture says in Proverb 23:7, “for as he thinks in his heart, so is he”. Whatever your inner mind meditates on, it harmonises you to it by default. Someone once said that ”you are the composite of those things you think you can and those things you think you can’t”. That is, the only limitations you can have are those you set for yourself in your mind and every great thing that has ever happened to you, first existed in your mind.
Another thing about the inner world is that just as it is impossible for a plant to sprout out without a seed, so is it impossible for a man to act without a thought. But in some cases, when it happens, there is a high tendency that it will not last. Have you ever noticed most people that had sudden wealth do end up being poor? Why? It is simply because they are not mentally ready for it, so they end up engaging in activities that squander the wealth.
We must note that we are the creative director of our inner world and it takes us virtually nothing to think big about ourselves since we know that as we propose in our heart, so shall it be unto us. In most cases, what you need to work on is the state of your mind, not the outer appearance. Imagine you walk down to a mirror and getting displeased by the image the mirror reflects back to you. You know very well, that you are doing yourself no good if you are trying to repaint the image on the mirror when what you are supposed to do is just to work on yourself, so you will reflect the kind of image you desire.
The greatest investment you can give yourself is to invest in your mind and think big.
