One of the biggest challenges most people face in life is rejection. It is more disheartening when those we feel should be of help look down on us. Imagine growing up with bright ideas and a strong passion with little or no encouragement. The fear of being beaten up and chastised has silenced most of our divine abilities.
My Dad always wanted me to be a Medical Doctor, that was his greatest dream. He never considered my passion and dreams. I remember how furious he was when he heard I wanted to be a comedian. I was so little then but I understood what it meant to heal the brokenhearted and put a smile on my neighbour’s face. He always told me I did not have proper knowledge of what being a grown-up felt like. I can remember how he banned me from writing scripts, watching comedy shows and the likes. He killed my greatest dream and I still feel hurt each time I think about it.
As a five-year-old boy, my teacher once asked for what I wanted to become when I become old enough. I am sure we are all familiar with that question. My response that day made her laugh so hard. I told her I did not know what I wanted to become because I had not lived in this world before. I had no idea of what being a grown-up felt like, all I wanted to do was put smiles on faces. I wanted to be the most sought-after man that has ever lived on earth.
Now, for a moment, imagine what I passed through that day as a little boy when I saw her laughing uncontrollably. That immediately dampened my spirit and made me hopeless. I noticed everyone around me failed to see what I was projecting for myself. Everyone around me was judgemental. My friends just wanted me to head towards their direction like a lost sheep and each time I dared to be different, they would call me all sorts of names. One of Jack Ma’s words got me thinking and ever since I realised it was OK to do things differently.
Observing the life of great men and women who have impacted the society positively, I noticed they all have something in common: REJECTION! but they all left their footprints in the sands of time after overcoming it. Do you know the greatest motivation you can ever have is the one inside of you? Take it or leave it, you are who you say you are.
Funny but true, do you know there is beauty in being rejected, misunderstood, unseen and unsupported? It only teaches you to rely on God for everything. You do not need anyone for approval to be good enough and whenever people reject you, I want you to realise it is not actually about you but about their insecurities and limitations.
If Everyone believes in your dreams then you need to check yourself.
